A Learjet 60 carrying nine people crashed in a residential area Sunday afternoon, triggering a fiery explosion and a large emergency response that shut down Military Trail.

The crash occurred around 12:50 p.m. near the intersection of South Military Trail and Marilyn Drive, with flames visible along the roadway and thick smoke rising into the sky.

Flight information indicates the aircraft departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas; the FAA described the information as preliminary.

The aircraft’s registration is LR60271 LLC, a Wilmington, Delaware-based company, and flight-tracking data corroborates a departure from Austin en route to the Bahamas. Debris and damaged pavement were reported at the scene.

Authorities shut northbound and southbound lanes of Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North, and urged drivers to seek alternate routes as investigations continue and the scene remains an extended incident.

Power outages were reported in the surrounding area, though the full extent has not been confirmed, and officials have not yet confirmed injuries or the number of people aboard. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
