Nine dead after 'horrific' plane crash in US neighbourhood
The cause of the plane crash and the identity of those on board are yet to be determined.
A private Learjet 60 crash near a Palm Beach County roadway is being investigated after a midday descent that resulted in a fiery crater and widespread smoke, according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The aircraft departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was en route to the Bahamas, with the FAA confirming the flight path prior to the incident.
Authorities described the event as occurring near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North in a Palm Beach County neighbourhood, not far from the Mar-a-Lago resort.
Emergency responders and road closures were in place as crews worked at the scene, where a large explosion and flames were observed and vehicles were nearby at the time of impact.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are examining the crash, with the FAA sending a team to support the ongoing investigation, while it remains unclear who was aboard or if anyone on the ground was injured.
