A business jet carrying nine people crashed in a South Florida neighborhood near a busy roadway, erupting into a large fireball. Officials confirmed that everyone on board died.

The crash occurred in Greenacres, Florida, a city southwest of West Palm Beach, with flames and smoke visible at the scene. Witness video from inside cars captured the moment the aircraft struck near the roadway and exploded.

The Learjet 60 was en route to the Bahamas after departing Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas, according to the FAA. Authorities did not immediately release information about the identities of those on board.

Authorities reported that the jet was flying at 35,000 feet when it encountered turbulence, icing, and precipitation, requested to climb, and subsequently entered a steep dive with rapid airspeed increases. The aircraft reportedly declared an emergency before crashing.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a team would support the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation. Local officials evacuated about 600 people from a nearby mobile home community, and the road was closed pending further notice. Rain was in the forecast at the time.
