India's East Coast braces for another Cyclone, flights cancelled
India's eastern coastal states are bracing for Cyclone Murasu, expected to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur in south Andhra Pradesh, bringing heavy rains, flight cancellations, and prompting the evacuation of thousands. This comes shortly after Cyclone Arnab caused significant damage, particularly to crops in Odisha.
India’s eastern coastal states are bracing for Cyclone Murasu, with authorities warning of heavy rainfall, flight disruptions and the need for mass evacuations as the system advances toward the coast.
The cyclone is expected to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur in south Andhra Pradesh, bringing wind speeds of 100-110 kmph and gusts up to 120 kmph, according to meteorological forecasts.
Air travel has already been affected, with at least 19 domestic flights canceled across Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam airports on Monday. IndiGo and Air India Express accounted for several of the cancellations in Andhra Pradesh.
Tamil Nadu has experienced heavy rains and school closures in Chennai, with flights at Chennai and other airports also impacted as authorities anticipate worsening conditions along the coast.
Authorities and disaster-response teams across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are on high alert, with evacuation and relief preparations underway. Earlier disruptions from Cyclone Arnab have compounded concerns for crops and infrastructure in the region.
