Jeppesen has stopped printing paper charts and those who want or need them will have to print them themselves. The company previously announced it would end the practice and Oct. 31 was the final day. “The global transition to paperless chart operations within the aviation industry continues to evolve rapidly, fueled by growing costs of managing paper and the immense benefits of digitally-powered operations,” the company says in a notice on its website. “The majority of flights around the world utilize Jeppesen digital charts instead of traditional paper charts.”
For those who haven’t (or can’t) make the switch to digital charts, the company is naturally suggesting ForeFight, which is also owned by private equity firm Thoma Bravo. Jep and ForeFlight were purchased by Thoma Bravo for $10.55 billion in a deal that closed almost exactly a year ago last Nov.3. Most other EFBs, including top rival Garmin Pilot, use Jep charts and many, including ForeFlight Mobile offer a print function. Jep will even sell you the seven-hole punch paper that fits the binders used by generations of pilots. Those with time left on their paper subscriptions will get a credit.
