NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman has confirmed a new X-plane will be announced at the organization’s Max Power air show at the Kennedy Space Center Nov 7-8. In a podcast interview last week, he also denied that the announcement had anything to do with the persistent rumor that NASA is returning at least one SR-71 to flying condition. “So, we’re just cleaning it, man,” Isaacman told interviewer Eric Johnson on NASA Spaceflight’s The Flame Trench podcast. “It was so dusty out there in the desert, and it just felt like it needed a cleaning.” There has been some speculation the SR-71 is being put back in service as a chase plane for whatever it is Isaacman is announcing.
