Why It Took Years For Boeing To Finally Get The Orders For The 787-10 It Always Wanted
The slow start for what became one of Boeing's best-selling jets today.
Boeing’s 787-10, the largest variant in the Dreamliner family, has historically underperformed in orders compared with its siblings, the 787-9 and other models. Despite the 787 family setting a record as the best-selling widebody, the 787-10 only recently began to show stronger sales momentum.
The largest Dreamliner variant was first introduced to the market at the 2013 Paris Air Show, marking its official launch. Since then, the model’s order book has grown steadily but slowly in comparison with other 787 variants.
As of mid-2025, the 787-10 had accumulated 433 gross orders, a far smaller total than the 1,557 orders recorded for the 787-9. This gap highlights a persistent disparity in demand within the 787 lineup.
The report emphasizes that the improved sales performance for the 787-10 occurred only recently, indicating a shift in customer interest and market dynamics that finally favored the larger model after more than a decade.
