India’s largest airline IndiGo is in talks with Embraer over a potential order for 100 regional jets with an option for 50 more in the future, according to Reuters.

On November 4, 2026, the news agency said several sources with knowledge of discussions indicated that talks were still at an early stage, with no guarantees of a deal.

Reuters added that there had been no decision around the type of aircraft, and the numbers could change.

In August 2026, reports surfaced that incoming IndiGo CEO Willie Walsh was evaluating Embraer’s next-generation E2 family, including the E190-E2 and E195-E2.

Rumors around a potential IndiGo regional jet order stretch back to 2024, when it was reported the carrier was in discussions with ATR, Embraer, and Airbus about orders for 100 aircraft.

A source told the Economic Times of India that ATR appeared to be the front-runner over Airbus and Embraer.

According to ch-aviation data, IndiGo currently operates ATR72-600s with the last delivery arriving in 2025.

Earlier this year, Embraer and Adani Defense and Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the establishment of a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in India for the E175 regional jet.

At the time, Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO, Embraer, said: “The E175 has a global track record of enabling efficient, high-frequency regional operations and India is a key growth market in that segment.”

He added: “This signing represents a critical milestone for our partnership, as we continue to work together on all aspects of the proposed aerospace ecosystem, including securing orders for a Final Assembly Line in India.”

It is widely thought that India will emerge as the largest regional aircraft market over the next decade, driven by the huge expansion of localized air connectivity.
