‘Bomb alert’ diverts Rome-bound passenger plane
At least nine flights in Europe have been subjected to bomb threats this week, forcing some to divert and an airport in Poland to briefly close.
A passenger plane traveling from Dublin to Rome was diverted to Evreux/Fauville Air Base in France after a bomb alert, according to a statement from Aer Lingus. The carrier said the flight landed safely at the military facility.
French officials confirmed they were monitoring a bomb alert related to the incident, with the matter described as a security precaution. No explosives were reported as discovered by authorities involved.
Tracking data indicated the Airbus A320 was en route normally, cruising at about 37,000 feet near Paris about an hour into the flight before descending and making a series of turns that led to the diversion.
The aircraft ultimately landed at the air base in Normandy, France, as part of the response to the security alert. Aer Lingus referenced the divert as a security precaution and noted a safe landing.
This incident occurred amid a week that has seen multiple bomb threats across Europe, though authorities have not identified any specific perpetrators or claims of responsibility. No injuries or aircraft damage have been reported in connection with this event.
