JetBlue has again raised its checked baggage fees for the second time this year, with new charges taking effect for tickets purchased on or after November 3.

For most economy passengers traveling within the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean, the first checked bag now costs at least US$50 each way, up from US$39.

Prices rise to US$55 during peak travel periods (including Thanksgiving and the winter holidays) if passengers pay at least 24 hours before departure, and US$60 during off-peak periods or US$70 during peak periods for tickets bought in the final 24 hours before departure.

JetBlue cited rising fuel and operating costs as the reason for the fee changes, noting the aim is to keep base fares competitive while offering the option to pay for a bag only when needed.

The airline’s baggage fee history shows an earlier increase in March, and JetBlue’s overall fee adjustments have influenced similar moves by other major U.S. carriers.
