A new international airport opened in Ilulissat, Greenland, on October 29, 2026, featuring a 2200-meter runway and a new terminal building, replacing the prior 845-meter strip.

The development enables direct European access to Ilulissat in roughly five hours, avoiding the need to first fly to Nuuk or Kangerlussuaq for onward connections.

Air Greenland launched a direct service from Copenhagen to Ilulissat aboard an Airbus A330neo, with Jettime beginning a Boeing 737-800 service in November 2026, initially offering one weekly direct flight.

Icelandair operates seasonal flights between Ilulissat and Keflavík International Airport in Iceland during the summer period.

Linda Kleist, CEO of Visit Greenland, described the airport as a milestone that expands tourism opportunities across Greenland’s regions, while emphasizing the importance of sustainable development and local community benefits.
