What Is the Argentine Flight Route That Was Named the Most Turbulent in the World?
An international report identified one route as the most unstable on the planet because of the strong bumps it hits in flight.
A recent international survey highlighted a flight route between Argentina and Chile as having the highest levels of instability recorded globally. The study identified the Mendoza to Santiago, Chile route as the area with the most turbulence in its analysis of more than 10,000 flights and 550 airports.
The route covers about 196 kilometers and typically lasts around 60 minutes. The turbulence is linked to crossing the Andes mountain range, where irregular air currents and strong winds are common.
Experts note that the interaction of cold and warm air masses along this corridor creates constant vertical air movements, contributing to the frequent jolts felt by passengers during the flight.
Despite the discomfort associated with turbulence, pilots and airlines emphasize that such conditions are a normal part of commercial aviation. The aircraft used on this route are designed to withstand extreme conditions, and crews follow specific protocols when movements become intense.
