Iraqi premier orders cancellation of 3 Mosul airport contracts over links to armed groups
Iraq’s PM Ali al-Zaidi canceled three Mosul airport contracts over alleged links to armed groups—covering counter, parking, and taxi office leases—and ordered them reassigned to international firms, INA reported.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered the cancellation of contracts at Mosul International Airport with three companies over reported links to armed groups.
The affected contracts involved Sky Plus for leasing airport counters, Sama al-Matar for leasing an open-air parking lot on airport grounds, and Al-Faisal al-Shamikh for leasing a taxi office, according to the Iraqi News Agency.
The orders specify that the contracts would be awarded to international firms, with no details given on which armed groups were involved or the exact nature of the links.
Officials were directed to speed up airport operations by hiring specialized international firms to jointly operate and manage the facility, as stated by the prime minister's office.
Mosul International Airport was inaugurated on July 16, 2025, by former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani after reconstruction and upgrades, but regular commercial service had not yet resumed due to technical and administrative challenges.
